Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), also known as Polyu, was founded in 1969. Universiti Sains Malaysia is the second national university to be established in Malaysia and one of the five research-intensive universities in Malaysia.
Recognised as the "Garden University of Asia", PolyU has been selected by the Ministry of Education of Malaysia as the APEX (Towards Excellence Programme) University for its research in sustainable development. Polyu has three campuses: the Main Campus (Penang), the Engineering Campus and the Medical Campus. Covering an area of 15,000 mu, polyU has 28 schools and 26 research centres offering master's and Doctoral degree programmes in more than 500 professional fields. Most of its faculty members have educational and academic backgrounds in the United States, The United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. It has more than 33,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
